Description: Demand for electricity changes through the day and has always been a challenge and a problem for utilities. On the one hand, during peak hours, the utility companies face significant pressure to provide users with enough electricity, and may even have to ration the electricity supply of certain areas when the gap between demand and generation is too large. On the other hand, during off-peak hours, generators are needed to provide sufficient electricity to meet user demand, contributing to increase energy costs. For greatest efficiency of the power system, the distribution companies wish to operate the power system as close as possible to the base load, for which the system is optimized, maintaining the power system stability. Electricity tariffs are also designed and optimized taking into account the knowledge of the load profile. In addition to the financial incentive to change consumption patterns, the inclusion of renewable energy resources such as solar photovoltaic panels, electric vehicles, storage systems, as well as demand response events can be considered to optimize energy costs and system stability. The increase in the cost of electricity, the availability of technical production solutions, financial and tax incentives to production and self-production, justify the increasing use of renewable energy sources of micro, mini-generation and self-generation connected to low voltage networks. An important factor in the billing of electricity is the Contracted Power (CP). If electricity consumers, particularly those with low voltage, had the opportunity and means to dynamically change the value of their CP, in order to adapt to their consumption profile, their energy costs would be lower. The installation of smart metering systems and a liberalized market environment are key factors to the implementation of this new paradigm. BeNeFiCE project proposes the aggregation of electrical consumers in a single electricity supply contract, the intelligent integration of energy production for self-consumption, storage systems, as well as charging points for electric vehicles in residential buildings. The development of computer optimization applications and management of energy resources in buildings will be the key success of the proposed aggregation of consumers. In fact, nowadays there is a gap in Portuguese electricity sector to enable consumers to have dynamic (CP). Technical, but mainly regulatory barriers, justify the proposed approach on this topic. The proposed project aims to study and develop energy management resources models in order to identify the potentialities in consumption and generation management models to allow dynamic CP, maintaining stability in electricity consumption of residential buildings. The main result that it is expected to achieve is the reduction of the electricity consumption costs and the contribution for energy efficiency usage.
