GECAD – Research Group on Intelligent Engineering and Computing for Advanced Innovation and Development – is based at the School of Engineering of the Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP/IPP) and focuses on two main areas: Intelligent Systems and Power and Energy Systems. Internationally recognized for its scientific excellence, the group is coordinated by Professor Maria Goreti Carvalho Marreiros and evaluated by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT). GECAD has a remarkable track record of success, reflected in numerous publications in prestigious scientific journals, also being responsible for editing several special issues. With the motto “Intelligence for a Sustainable, Safe, and Inclusive World”, GECAD directs its projects towards critical areas of society such as energy, transportation, environment, economy, inclusion, critical infrastructures, security, information access, and new forms of socialization, always with a perspective of sustainability, safety, and inclusion. GECAD is part of the Associated Laboratory of Intelligent Systems (LASI), the first in Portugal dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, which brings together thirteen research units across the country. Within LASI, GECAD carries out innovative research across several thematic lines: Innovative and Sustainable Industries, Smart Cities, Mobility and Energy, Health and Well-being, Infrastructures and Highly Connected Society, and Public Administration and Governance, contributing to a more efficient, resilient, and inclusive society.
