Occupying an exclusive area exceeding 800 square meters, strategically distributed across two buildings (N and I), housing specialized GECAD laboratories and offices.
GECAD is involved in 2 main areas: Intelligent Systems and Power Energy Systems. The research group is known worldwide in its areas of research, leading some research domains. It is coordinated by Prof. Maria Goreti Carvalho Marreiros, and recognized by FCT (Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation).
The research group has a tremendous success in publications in important scientific journals, many special issues of these journals are edited by GECAD researchers. Understanding its responsibility for the Society development, GECAD has decided to adopt a new slogan: “Intelligence for a Sustainable, Safe, and Inclusive World”. For this reason, the most recent projects are applied to areas like Energy, Transportation, Environment, Economy, Inclusion, Critical Infrastructures, Security, Information Access and new ways of Socialization.
GECAD integrates the Associated Laboratory of Intelligent Systems (LASI)that is the first Portuguese Associated Laboratory focused on Artificial Intelligence. LASI integrates thirteen Research Units geographically distributed throughout the country, namely: GECAD, 2Ai, ALGORITMI, CIBIT, CISTER, CISUC, CMUP, CTS, IEETA, IPC, LIACC, TEMA and UNIDEMI. GECAD is looking forward to work within the LASI framework performing innovative research in the following Thematic Lines:
GECAD envisages accomplishing its mission by the structuring, organization and development of pos-graduation works, R&D projects, dissemination, debate, and diffusion of knowledge. These activities will have national and international impact, with special emphasis to the scientific community, enterprises, organizations, and persons involved in the real world practices.
GECAD is a research unit settled in the Institute of Engineering – Polytechnic of Porto having as mission the promotion and development of scientific research in the Knowledge and Decision Sciences domains, having Information Technologies as support.
