João Soares was invited by Prof. Bruno FRANCOIS, a full professor at Centrale Lille/L2EP, for a month-long visit. During his stay, João Soares engaged in a variety of activities.

On February 2, Prof. FRANCOIS organized a visit of the RTE Showroom and RTE dispatch center in Lomme, Lille. This visit provided an excellent opportunity for the students to gain practical insights into the workings of the energy sector.

Two graduate students from JUNIA HEI, supervised by Prof. Arnaud Davigny, visited the L2EP lab for a meeting with Prof. Soares to discuss potential internships at GECAD.

During his stay, Prof. Dhaker ABBES and Prof. Moez BELHAOUANE also welcomed Prof. Soares and discussed continued collaboration possibilities within JUNIA/L2EP.

Prof. Soares delivered lectures on computational intelligence applications in energy systems and optimization for operation and planning of electrical distribution networks for the master course “Electrical Engineering for Sustainable Development (E2SD)”.

In addition, Prof. Soares participated in several meetings with PhD students, including Mohamad EL IALLI (working on estimation of electric grid measurements and digital twin using AI), Joey YOUSSEF (working on MVDC links), Haider ALI (working on fleets of autonomous electric vehicles) and Amira DHORBANI (working on blockchain-based energy management). These meetings allowed for in-depth discussions on their respective research topics, fostering an environment of knowledge exchange and learning.

João Soares also visited the ENSAM Digital Twin lab supervised by Prof. Bruno Francois. Here, researchers Reza Razi and Haider Ali demonstrated the advances L2EP is making on the integration of distribution network simulation with optimization of fleet of autonomopus electric vehicles. Our researcher was impressed with the progress made since his last visit in June 2023.

João Soares expresses his gratitude for the warm welcome by Prof. Bruno Francois extended to Prof. Dhaker, Prof. Moez, and Prof. Arnaud Davigny. The visit was a great success, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and strengthening the relationship between Centrale Lille/L2EP and GECAD and JUNIA. We look forward to future opportunities for collaboration and exchange.
