Recalling a great week at the IEEE PES General Meeting 2026 in Montreal, held from 19–23 July.
Prof. Zita Vale and I had the pleasure of participating in IEEE Power & Energy Society GM2026 last week, as well as in several sessions throughout the event. We would like to share a brief recap.
Within AMPS (Analytic Methods for Power Systems), under the Intelligent Systems Subcommittee (ISS), Prof. Zita Vale chaired the Intelligent Data Mining and Analysis (IDMA) Working Group Meeting and the Open Data Sets Task Force Meeting, with Joao Soares serving as Vice-Chair.
The IDMA meeting brought together more than 20 attendees and generated valuable discussions on directions for the year ahead. Joao Soares also served as Secretary of the IEEE Intelligent Systems Subcommittee Meeting, while Prof. Zita Vale served as Secretary of the AMPS Committee meetings.
We also contributed to four panel sessions covering key topics in AI and power systems, with Prof. Zita Vale participating as a panelist in three sessions and Joao Soares in one:
– Building Datasets to Enable AI Tools in Power and Energy Systems
– Harnessing DERs for Grid Flexibility and Resilience
– European Energy Transition: AI, Sector Coupling, and Grid Innovations
– Large Language Models for Power and Energy Systems: Current Research and Dealing with Known Issues
All sessions were very well attended, with the LLM panel attracting more than 120 participants. It was fantastic to see such strong engagement from the community on this important topic.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the week, especially the speakers who generously accepted our invitations to contribute to the panels, as well as everyone who attended the meetings. Your engagement made this General Meeting truly memorable.
Looking forward to the next edition in San Francisco, from 25–29 July 2027!
